Bears drop to post-Packers game ranking

December 3rd, 2008 - 12:34 pm

Interestingly, the Bears dropped this week to nearly the same ranking in all publications that they had received following their loss to the Packers two weeks ago. The Bears are still higher than the Top 20 in all of the following power rankings with the chance to move back up once again if they can beat the Jaguars Sunday.

Explanation: The Bears didn’t look too smooth Sunday night, but they need to realize they’re only one game out in the division. A lot can still happen. (KS)

Explanation: At one point against Philly early in the season, the Bears were saved by a goal-line stand … one that helped turn their season around. However, getting stuffed four times from the one against Minnesota last week has allowed their season to pivot in the opposite direction — especially once ex-Bear Bernard Berrian stopped running off his ensuing 99-yard TD catch and run.

Explanation: The Bears defense always seems to punish Vikings super-back Adrian Peterson, but it never really stops him. Thanks to the dome, there wasn’t any dirt or grass stains on anyone’s uniforms at game’s end, but I did see more than a little blood.

Explanation: That goal-line stand against the Vikings might be their undoing this season. That and the fact their defense isn’t as good as its reputation.
