2010 Weekly Predictions: Super Bowl

February 5th, 2011 - 1:47 pm

Well, no matter the result of the Super Bowl, I’ll finish with a better record than I had the previous year of predictions. I’ll fall short of my 70% goal, though. As for picks against the spread, it was my first year doing that and I think I did okay for my first time, finishing at 56%. One more game remains, so let’s see if I can finish on a high note.

Point spreads come from Vegas.com as of Saturday afternoon.

Green Bay Packers (13-6) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (14-4)
At the beginning of the year, I predicted a Packers-Colts Super Bowl, so it gives me some gratification that I correctly picked one of the teams. I just wish it were the Colts and not the hated Packers. What’s impressive, though, is that the Packers reached this point with so many of their players on injured reserve. If this game were played on grass, I’d feel a little better about the Steelers’ chances. But after what we saw Aaron Rodgers and the Packers’ offense do in a controlled climate and on turf against the Atlanta Falcons in the divisional round of the playoffs, I don’t think the Steelers will be able to stop them. It pains me to say this as a Bears fan, but the Packers will go on to win the Super Bowl.
