Projecting the Bears’ 2011 53-man roster
August 31st, 2011 - 7:11 pmThe Bears’ final preseason game is on Thursday and those players who currently sit on the bubble have one last chance to prove to the coaches that they belong on the 53-man roster. The final cutdown is on Saturday, and while nobody knows what’s truly going on in the minds of those in charge at Halas Hall, here’s my prediction for who survives final cuts:
Quarterbacks (3):
Jay Cutler
Caleb Hanie
Nathan Enderle
Running Backs (3):
Matt Forte
Marion Barber
Kahlil Bell
Wide Receivers (6):
Roy Williams
Devin Hester
Johnny Knox
Earl Bennett
Sam Hurd
Dane Sanzenbacher
Tight Ends/H-Backs (4):
Kellen Davis
Matt Spaeth
Desmond Clark
Kyle Adams
Offensive Linemen (8):
J’Marcus Webb
Chris Williams
Roberto Garza
Lance Louis
Gabe Carimi
Frank Omiyale
Edwin Williams
Chris Spencer
Defensive Linemen (9):
Julius Peppers
Henry Melton
Anthony Adams
Israel Idonije
Matt Toeaina
Corey Wootton
Stephen Paea
Amobi Okoye
Mario Addison
Linebackers (6):
Lance Briggs
Brian Urlacher
Nick Roach
Brian Iwuh
Dom DeCicco
J.T. Thomas
Cornerbacks (6):
Charles Tillman
Tim Jennings
Zack Bowman
Corey Graham
D.J. Moore
Josh Moore
Safeties (5):
Chris Harris
Major Wright
Craig Steltz
Chris Conte
Winston Venable
Specialists (3):
Robbie Gould
Adam Podlesh
Patrick Mannelly
Notable Mentions:
If Kyle Adams or Desmond Clark do not make the team, it could be because the team likes fullback Eddie Williams.
If Mario Addison does not make the team, he could find his way to the practice squad. That could open the door to the Bears bringing back Alex Brown, or taking another chance on Marcus Harrison, although both those scenarios seem unlikely at the moment.
