September 17th, 2011 - 4:01 pm

A look at my NFL weekly predictions for Week 2.

Point spreads come from bodog.eu as of Saturday afternoon.

Last Week: 10-6
Last Week against the spread: 5-10-1

This Week: 13-3
This Week against the spread: 3-12-1

Overall: 23-9
Overall against the spread: 8-22-2

Oakland Raiders (1-0) at Buffalo Bills (1-0)
Who would have thought the Raiders and Bills would be 1-0 at this point? Buffalo’s run game ought to take advantage of the Raiders’ run defense and that’ll open up the passing game for a home victory.
Prediction: Buffalo 24, Oakland 21
Actual Score: Buffalo 38, Oakland 35
Spread Pick: Oakland +3 1/2
Actual Score: Buffalo 38, Oakland 35

Green Bay Packers (1-0) at Carolina Panthers (0-1)
The Packers picked up right where they left off last year by taking it to the Saints on opening night. Now they travel to last year’s worst team. Packers should win big.
Prediction: Green Bay 30, Carolina 17
Actual Score: Green Bay 30, Carolina 23
Spread Pick: Green Bay -10 1/2
Actual Score: Green Bay 30, Carolina 23

Kansas City Chiefs (0-1) at Detroit Lions (1-0)
It was surprising how poorly the Chiefs played against the Bills in Week 1 and I expect them to play better this week. But the Lions are playing great football to start the season and will succeed in their home opener.
Prediction: Detroit 27, Kansas City 20
Actual Score: Detroit 48, Kansas City 3
Spread Pick: Kansas City +8 1/2
Actual Score: Detroit 48, Kansas City 3

Cleveland Browns (0-1) at Indianapolis Colts (0-1)
It’s amazing just how valuable Peyton Manning is to the Colts. Without him, they looked like the worst team in the league last week. That’s further proof why he’s the best quarterback in the game, but I digress. The Colts should defend their home field against the Browns, albeit in an ugly fashion.
Prediction: Indianapolis 20, Cleveland 17
Actual Score: Cleveland 27, Indianapolis 19
Spread Pick: Indianapolis +2
Actual Score: Cleveland 27, Indianapolis 19

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-1) at Minnesota Vikings (0-1)
Minnesota looked impressive on the road against the Chargers in Week 1 whereas the Bucs struggled at home against the Lions. I think the Vikings will take care of the Bucs with a good balanced approach on offense.
Prediction: Minnesota 24, Tampa Bay 20
Actual Score: Tampa Bay 24, Minnesota 20
Spread Pick: Minnesota -3
Actual Score: Tampa Bay 24, Minnesota 20

Chicago Bears (1-0) at New Orleans Saints (0-1)
The Saints may have lost to the Packers in Week 1, but their offense was nearly unstoppable. The Bears took it to the Falcons but might have a little more trouble with the Saints in New Orleans.
Prediction: New Orleans 27, Chicago 23
Actual Score: New Orleans 30, Chicago 13
Spread Pick: Chicago +7
Actual Score: New Orleans 30, Chicago 13

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0) at New York Jets (1-0)
Jacksonville squeezed past division rival Tennessee in Week 1, but they’ll have a much more difficult task against the Jets, who outlasted the Cowboys. New York’s run game and defense should get the job done.
Prediction: NY Jets 20, Jacksonville 14
Actual Score: NY Jets 32, Jacksonville 3
Spread Pick: Jacksonville +9
Actual Score: NY Jets 32, Jacksonville 3

Seattle Seahawks (0-1) at Pittsburgh Steelers (0-1)
I was one of many who had to have been amazed at how the Ravens handled the Steelers last week. Don’t look for lightning to strike twice, though. The Steelers should prevail at home.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 24, Seattle 13
Actual Score: Pittsburgh 24, Seattle 0
Spread Pick: Seattle +14 1/2
Actual Score: Pittsburgh 24, Seattle 0

Baltimore Ravens (1-0) at Tennessee Titans (0-1)
Complete domination from the Ravens in Week 1, they should continue to play well this week against the Titans. Tennessee probably does not have the firepower to keep up with the Ravens and their defense isn’t good enough to keep the Ravens in check.
Prediction: Baltimore 24, Tennessee 14
Actual Score: Tennessee 26, Baltimore 13
Spread Pick: Baltimore -6 1/2
Actual Score: Tennessee 26, Baltimore 13

Arizona Cardinals (1-0) at Washington Redskins (1-0)
Arizona may have gotten paste the Panthers last week but that’s no big accomplishment. Washington played well thanks to Rex Grossman and they should advance to 2-0 with a win at home over the Cardinals.
Prediction: Washington 24, Arizona 20
Actual Score: Washington 22, Arizona 21
Spread Pick: Washington -4
Actual Score: Washington 22, Arizona 21

Dallas Cowboys (0-1) at San Francisco 49ers (1-0)
This game was difficult to predict. The 49ers looked good in Week 1, but it was against the Seahawks. The Cowboys had a rough matchup with the Jets and Dez Bryant is hobbled. I think they’re a deep enough team to survive without him — if he doesn’t play, that is.
Prediction: Dallas 27, San Francisco 20
Actual Score: Dallas 27, San Francisco 24
Spread Pick: Dallas -3
Actual Score: Dallas 27, San Francisco 24

Cincinnati Bengals (1-0) at Denver Broncos (0-1)
Cincinnati’s offense has been gutted but they still managed to beat divisional foe Cleveland in Week 1. They have some talent there, but I don’t know about consistency. Denver narrowly was defeated by the Raiders by Kyle Orton played well. I think they’ll prevail at home.
Prediction: Denver 24, Cincinnati 21
Actual Score: Denver 24, Cincinnati 22
Spread Pick: Cincinnati +3 1/2
Actual Score: Denver 24, Cincinnati 22

Houston Texans (1-0) at Miami Dolphins (0-1)
The Texans beat up on a Colts team sans Peyton Manning and did it with a total team effort. Matt Schaub and the passing game was good, Ben Tate filled in well for the injured Arian Foster, and the defense got after Kerry Collins. They should go into Miami and keep it up.
Prediction: Houston 23, Miami 20
Actual Score: Houston 23, Miami 13
Spread Pick: Miami +3
Actual Score: Houston 23, Miami 13

San Diego Chargers (1-0) at New England Patriots (1-0)
After overcoming a slow start against the Vikings, the Chargers found their groove and came back to win. New England steamrolled the Dolphins behind a team-record 517 passing yards from Tom Brady. In a close game, I expect the Patriots to pull this one out in the end.
Prediction: New England 27, San Diego 24
Actual Score: New England 35, San Diego 21
Spread Pick: San Diego +7
Actual Score: New England 35, San Diego 21

Philadelphia Eagles (1-0) at Atlanta Falcons (0-1)
In Michael Vick’s return to Atlanta, I expect the Falcons to have a rebound game following their poor outing against the Bears in Week 1. The Eagles will keep this one close and Vick should have a great game in the loss.
Prediction: Atlanta 24, Philadelphia 23
Actual Score: Atlanta 35, Philadelphia 31
Spread Pick: Atlanta +3
Actual Score: Atlanta 35, Philadelphia 31

St. Louis Rams (0-1) at New York Giants (0-1)
The Rams couldn’t contend with the Eagles in Week 1, but they’ll face a more beatable opponent in the Giants on Monday night. Although I expect the Rams to make a game out of this, I feel the Giants will prevail at home behind a stingy defensive effort.
Prediction: NY Giants 23, St. Louis 17
Actual Score: NY Giants 28, St. Louis 16
Spread Pick: St. Louis +6
Actual Score: NY Giants 28, St. Louis 16
