If anybody is looking for a reason why the Bears were so bad the last two years and are still struggling to pull themselves out of the abyss after Sunday’s 48-23 blowout loss to the Cardinals, look no further than to what happened to its 2014 first-round draft pick.
Fuller had been struggling this season and the coaching staff had seen enough, benching the second-year cornerback toward the end of the game in the middle of the rout.
Fuller showed promise last season with a nose for the football and the playmaking ability to affect a passing game, but he’s having difficulty in coverage, keeping up with receivers and diagnosing plays.
Then again, with a pass rush as awful as the Bears have been generating — zero sacks in two weeks — it’s hard to pin everything on the secondary.
