The Bears brought back a couple of contributors from a season ago by agreeing to deals with receiver/kick returner Marc Mariani and defensive lineman Mitch Unrein, the team announced on Saturday.
Mariani signed a one-year deal while Unrein’s deal was for two years.
Mariani had some struggles in the return game, but showed his versatility by pitching in on offense when the receiving corps was decimated by injuries. On a short-term deal, his spot on the opening-day roster is not a guarantee, and he’ll have to earn it on the field in the preseason.
Unrein followed head coach John Fox from Denver and was a steady rotational player. He appeared in 14 games and started four of them after rookie Eddie Goldman went down with an injury.
