just to clarify, as i am that texting brother, the green/gold wearing was partially done as a joke and partially done as one of our family members is a HUGE Packers fan and we were together celebrating the day before his birthday.

in fact, the truth of the matter, is that i saw positives and negatives to both situations (green bay winning or losing) and it didn't much matter what i was rooting for because i don't have too much control over the outcome. does the thought of playing the packers on january 23rd bother me? you bet...it makes me sick actually. that said, i want to see the bears get to the NFC Championship game this year and we'll all deal with the outcome when it's all over.

not to get optimistic on anyone here but if the Bears get past the 'hawks and do get to play the packers on january 23rd, could you imagine what a win would feel like? i wouldn't mind having the chance to find out.

Yep, this is one of those rare opportunities when you can say, "It's good to be wrong." I know many Bears fans across the country (and in your case, the world) were happy to admit as much. Let's hope the same goes for this week against the Pack.

I couldn't be happier that we were both wrong. Helluva game. I live in Hong Kong, have a newborn baby and was watching it via NFL Gamepass in real time. Needless to say, the wife was less than thrilled when I woke the baby several times when my emotions got the better of me ;-)

I agree with your assessment, which is why I'm positive that the Bears are going to get HAMMERED in Texas this weekend. The Cowboys might even chase them to the locker room.

As a bears fan I kind of liked the Cutler trade, he is a definate upgrade from Orton, but I have just one question, what good did it do to get Cutler when the Bears have no one for him to throw to. All of our widereceivers suck and the Bears are a running team, I could get behind center and hand the ball off. So unless they plan to bring in a decent widereceiver this trade was stupid

Fortunately for the Bears two of the three positions they need most are plentiful in the draft. OT then WR are the order I see Chicago drafting. Though one scenario would be interesting. If CB V. Davis or CB M. Jenkins slide to 18, one may prove to enticing for Jerr Bear and Lovie. Other than this possibility, I see Chicago going with the best OT available in the first round. In the second round, Brian Robiskie WR, who is more of what they need in a receiver (good hands, route running, blocking). He's not the athletic freak Heyward-Bey is, but Robiskie seems more NFL ready to me.

Good move for The Bears. This gives Chicago a player that could start if need be. The fact that he volunteered to play special teams last year, tells me what kind of character Kevin Jones has. He was a first round pick and one of the better RB's in the league before he got hurt. Imagine Cedric Benson volunteering for special teams, that gives perspective. He runs well, catches well, couple that with a guy that wants to prove he belongs in NFL, GOOD MOVE.

Now pretty please with sugar on top, sign safety Roy Williams.

I completely agree. Something about Craig Steltz in the defensive backfield at this point in his career scares me. The Bears had a hard enough time covering receivers last year with a knowledgable player like Mike Brown roaming the secondary. They need veteran help there.

Fortunately Chicago will not pursue Owens. I have no doubt he would bring more bad than good.
Acquiring Roy Williams does seem to be a good fit for Chicago and here is why.

1)The bears need veteran leadership at that position (developing Steltz).

2)Very thin draft class at the safety position this year.

3)Even in pass coverage, he is an upgrade over the Strong Safety's Chicago has now.

4)He has been durable.

5)Roy Williams is a superior tackler, something Chicago didn't have at that position every time Mike Brown left the field.

6)At 28 he still has a ton of football left in the tank.

7)HE HITS REAL,REAL HARD!!

6)At 28 he still has a ton of football left in the tank.

7)HE HITS REAL,REAL HARD!!

Wanna talk about blowing it, Bobby...I think the Bears blew it in the 5th round of the 2003 draft.

Further, I think YOU blew it in 2005 with 10 total fumbles; not to mention 4 in one game.

Ba-bye.

I put some of the blame on the players. We have several defense players that we pay like quarter backs, and they are not performing to expectations. They didn't seem to play with a lot of heart. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to put Orton in as QB. I am at the point where we need to let Orton rest and put Caleb Hanie. He can't do worse than Gross Rexman and its time to get rid of Bob Babich.

He is sucking the air out of the team and this soft squishy defense scheme isn't working. They need to get back to what got them to the dance in the first place. Wheres the pressure on the qb? Where is the pass rush? Wheres the "up in your face" style of play?

Devon Hester is Done a returns receiver. Keep him on offense. The League has his number and hes isn't producing.

Today was a sad and miserable day for Bear fans and this should light a fire under Lovie's rear end to kick Babich in the rear or have him fire his sorry butt and get someone that has some fire in his belly and uses an aggressive defensive scheme as opposed to crap in one hand and hope in the other.

Certainly there are a few ways to look at this game. I need to start by saying I felt things were going really well in the first half; the tempo of the game was good, the playcalling was consistent, and the O and D lines were controlling the game. Then it happened...

In typical recent history type form, the Bears allowed the momentum to swing back to the Panthers. The first Olson fumble, the inaccurate passes from Orton and, surprisingly to me, the inconsistency defensively. Now, I'll give the D a partial pass because they had to live on the field in the second half. However, when you are the catalyst that makes the team go, back a play when you need to.

I agree, 1-1 after two tough road games would have been a "win" to any Bears fan 3 weeks ago; but now, it seems ugly and grueling. I hope some more readers have some comments too. I'm really looking forward to hearing what you all think.

Well written.

The key factors last night were the defense unit and the Orton-Forte combo. These two seemed to click.

I really can^t wait to see how we stack up against the Panthers who also beat the Chargers on the road.

Our goal was to go 1-1 on this two game stretch but if we get similar performances(not everyday is Christmas) we can beat the Panthers.

Go Bears!!!

What I hated that year was how the defense and Lovie Smith loosened up because of Grossman.

Rex came in that Atlanta game, threw a few passes and all of a sudden the offense moved and the crowd loved it,but the defense from that game and on was less intense because with Kyle Orton they knew they were going to be on the field therefore they had to put more effort.

The question is would they have held up?I think so.
Kyle despite being a rookie that year and leading the Bears to many victories for the second spot of the NFC North just hit the rookie wall that day against Atlanta.Of course the crowd booing you doesn't help but the fans were making a statement also.On the other hand the defense took pride by playing its game and holding opponents to an average of 9.sth points.

Going back to that season Kyle had 3 really bad games(Bengals,Packers and Falcons).Other than those games for a rookie ,game management was very good and i nthe end the Bears found ways to win.

But all Lovie had to see was Muhammad yelling at Ortons face for not making a right choice. If Mushin was a cool veteran he shouldve taken Orton aside and explain. The writing was on the wall for Orton that year.

Had the Bears had Orton for than Carolina playoff game noway do the Bears lose in Soldier field. He wouldve managed the game to a low scoring game, where the Bears are good at,and not catch up be cause the D would^ve been on its heels all day long.

Now,all I hope is for Kyle to show his real talent and football instincts and Im sure he will manage the games even better now.
