John Fox says Bears had worst NFL offseason
The Bears had the worst NFL offseason, according to former Bears head coach John Fox.
Fox, an ESPN NFL analyst, made the comments on Monday.
There’s no question that losing Vic Fangio could have ramifications for the Bears’ signature unit. Fangio long has been one of, if not the best in the business at what he does. What Fangio created in Chicago was a culture of defensive dominance.
But I would hardly call the Bears’ offseason bad. The team found a capable replacement in Chuck Pagano, former head coach of the Indianapolis Colts as well as a defensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Bears also took steps to improve the offensive side of the ball, drafting running back David Montgomery and wide receiver Riley Ridley and adding the versatile Cordarrelle Patterson to head coach Matt Nagy’s bag of tricks.
They’ve also attempted to right the ship on special teams, adding Patterson’s kick return abilities and slinging enough crap against the kicker wall hoping something sticks to fix that position.
I’m not going to go so far as saying Fox feels scorned, by any means. If anything, he’s probably just showing his level of respect for his former defensive coordinator.
That said, I’m just not sure his analysis skills are quite up to snuff.
