Don’t look now, Bears fans, but the all-time Bears-Packers rivalry record is about to be tied up.
The series currently stands at 94-93-6 in favor of the Bears.
The Bears have led the head-to-head series for 83 years, ever since they beat the Packers, 10-7, in 1933 to take a 12-11-4 early advantage. This string of 83 years of superiority was largely due to the Bears’ dominance through the 30s, 40s, 50s, 70s and 80s.
But in the 60s, the Packers had their heyday under Vince Lombardi, and ever since the 1990s, the Packers have been in control of the rivalry. This, of course, is thanks to the long run of dominance by quarterbacks Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.
If you need any more reason why the Bears need to find a franchise quarterback, just analyze the past 50 Bears-Packers games for evidence. With great play by just two Packers quarterbacks in that span of games, the Packers hold a 36-14 advantage over the Bears and their carousel of failure at the position.
For Bears fans looking for bragging rights over their stinky cheese neighbors to the north, Sunday’s game against the Packers could be a sad day. The Packers hold a 13-9 advantage in total league championships with a 4-1 edge in Super Bowl titles. But at least the Bears were able to lay claim to head-to-head dominance for so long.
Until, perhaps, this Sunday — and certainly not over the last two and a half decades.
Some fans couldn’t care less about the Bears-Packers rivalry or its all-time record. Winning championships is the most important thing in their minds and that appears to present a much tougher road ahead for the Bears in order to catch up to the Packers.Source: http://www.bearsbeat.com/2016/12/16/bears-packers-record-all-time-tie/
